Running SETA for long periods of time unattended is generally not a great idea as you lose your rankings very quickly that way. The stock game itself has been pretty stable since v1.4. It's an awesome ship when you get skilled enough with the flight controls to avoid most/all enemy fire, but if you're having trouble keeping a Buster alive the Mamba Raider is going to give you similar trouble. The Mamba Raider is more like an extra-heavy M4 as it only has 25MJ of shielding. The Mamba Raider is a fine ship, but if you are still having trouble with the combat controls you may want to go with something heavier shielded. Although I suggest using, rather than selling the mamba. If trading is more your thing, there's a toucan hauler that's very easy to get as well.Įdit: Just noticed Neal's post on this.
It's on par with a pirate nova raider and with a decent pilot it can hold it's own in a xenon sector, or be used to capture an LX(M3+ class, probably the best fighter sized ship in the game) There's a few very good ships hidden away which can be grabbed in your buster, the Mamba Raider in particular. They can really help to get over the steep learning curve and get you some credits to buy your first jumpdrive, etc. This really pissed me off, even if the game was only $19.99.įor anyone who isn't doing a storyline game and is having trouble getting started fighting pirates with that lousy buster, I suggest looking into some of the abandoned ship lists online. I bought this recently, and it didn't have a bound manual in it (and reading a 100+ page PDF makes me want to cry). One of the weaknesses in X3, in my own opinion, is that it can be difficult to feel as though you're actually *part* of the world, and many of their scripts (such as the convoys, guilds, and capital ship crews) do a lot to rectify that. In the master list from the scripts & modding forum, install scripts from LV, Cycrow, and XaiCorp (they're all pretty well-regarded scripters) that look intriguing. Install the latest bonus pack (from the downloads page). It's the most hooked I've been on a single-player game in a very long time. "wtf.")Īll that said, I've found it to be a blast.
The 2.0 retail box doesn't ship with a manual. after the first few missions, they don't even tell you where stuff is. The storyline gives you very little help. I've never really gotten into space sims before, and X3 is a pretty brutal introduction. I bought the "X3: Reunion 2.0" retail box version, and it is starforce-free.
