year 10 pupils (DfE) and adult learners (GLA) in London were given thousands of devices to continue learning online. However, these only satisfied some of the need:

Several initiatives were launched during the crisis. Recovery should anticipate a shift to more online services ‘as the new normal.’ During lockdown Londoners relied heavily on digital content and services to work, study communicate and get public health messages and other support. Those lacking digital connectivity or access to a suitable device, could not use online services, learn or productively work from home during lockdown.īeing online gives you more chances of finding work, buying cheaper goods, communication with family and friends and quickly accessing government services (ONS 2019). The coronavirus crisis showed many Londoners are still unable to benefit from the opportunities the internet provides.
